I work out 5x a wk, and eat a relatively healthy diet...it must be due to the fact that I smoke, dont get as much sleep as I should...about 5 hrs a day, and I drink on the weekends. Any thoughts?

With that blood pressure, I wouldn't worry at all.

Only once it goes toward 90 for the lower value, you might want to watch out. Not sure about a good indicator for the higher value, probably about 150/160 or so..
Smoking surely doesn't really help in general, as such also for the blood pressure. So if you wanna do something good for your health, quit smoking...
If stress is a factor, I would have a good recommendation from my own experience.

I'd say you are healthy, except the smoking thing of course. Your blood pressure is only slightly high. Some people's blood pressure shoots up when they know they have to go to the doctor. It's very common. Try to increase your cardio workout; don't concentrate on weights; get more sleep. Everyone needs at least 7-8 hrs. Cut down on salty, processed, fast foods; increase your fluids (water - no carbonated drinks or caffeine) to remove any excess fluid that will cause your blood pressure rise. You might want to moderate your drinking also. Thoughts: small changes will make a world of difference; especially, as you age. "moderation in everything" is the key to good health and longevity. Good luck.

Smoking may definately be a factor, but heredity is probably the biggest factor in hypertension. You may need to go on a mild antihypertensive since it seems like you are in pretty good shape. Stopping the smoking is always a good idea too.

Just a quick note. We used to treat HTN when numbers got above 140/90. New studies have shown that even that is too high. Most docs are starting to treat at 130/80 to protect the heart and kidneys as much as possible.

Stress alone can cause an increase in blood pressure. When you exercise, are you getting at least 30 minutes of cardio? Weight training doesn't count. You should definitely try to get 8 hours of sleep in and well, we all know smoking isn't good for high blood pressure. I bet if you stopped the smoking alone, you could get that blood pressure down. Do it before you have to go on meds the rest of your life.
