You cannot be using the drive you want to format while you format it. In order to format it, boot from your Windows XP CD and reinstall Windows. In the process you'll be able to format the drive.

You have to be an administrator!
Then go right-click on the start button
then find the drive you want
then right click on it
click format
click full format not quick fomat

U can make an FDisk from Dos restart Ur PC while putting a start up Disck and then write FDisk it enterthen it will lead U through it

Thats not possible that XP wont let you do that.
Re-Install the software from the beginnning and it will ask for an option. (go through every option carefully while re-installation)

put win xp installtion cd in cd rom
and try boot with this cd
in first install wizard you can format all drive

insert bootable winxp cd into drive -> restart -> boot from cd -> format from the installation process of winxp

how would that happen... operating system does not really support formatting itself where its files to run stores on it... you need to start from scratch and let your computer boot from a msdos startup disk so you can configure everything...

go to sourceforge.net and find a wipe disk and format your hard drive that way.

format to WHAT? could you be more specific.....or you just want to bring the hard drive to it's factory specs.....if its the latter, use your Restore CD...
