He does not want me moving or throwing out his stuff. He does not like me asking him about it. He tends to fill up all available surfaces with junk. I have no authority over the junk (of course he tends to keep a lot of things). I have threatened to put it all in a box and he got miffed. How can i declutter the house of his stuff without damaging the relationship or irritating him? I love him and am willing to put up with the clutter if i have to. Maybe statute of limitations [if not done by X date i will take Y action]. Suggestions?

A relationship is about give and take. It is also about sharing and caring about each other. In this case, he needs to realize that this junk is causing a problem with the relationship and that it is time for some give and take. I think that it works best when a guy has a room or two in a house that are his that he can have his junk but that the rest of the house needs to be for the family. He also needs to realize that not every bit of his junk is really that important. If it was really important then he would find a way to display it or use it. The key is to get him to agree to small steps like where his stuff can and can't be and then work on determining how what seems like junk can be actually used or displayed to make it as important as he thinks it is.

Sounds like he needs a room of his own that all his stuff goes into.
I don't know your house but you might have to convert a smaller room or add a small room addition.
I have a room that is all mine, just as I enter the house from the garage, and it is floor to ceiling cubby holes and bins that I can dump m pockets and stuff into. It is off limits to the whole household. It is only 8 by 10 but it keeps the other 3000 feet free of my stuff.

My dad did that until my mom showed him he could get money for it by putting the junk on Ebay. If you don't need money, ask to put it in storage. The way my dad got over it was the stuff was placed in storage, then years later he realized he never needed it, hadn't gone to check on it, so he threw it all away.

All I can say is that the house belongs to both of you, and if you don't want to look like a packrat, then you don't have to. Give him the statue of limitations..let him know you're serious. Nag him more and more until he agrees to clean it up. (I'm a neat freak and recently had to deal with this myself.)
