Any autonomous or semi-autonomous entity should be allowed to participate in the world cup as long as they have their own governing body of representation on some level and are registered with FIFA.

Just ask Puerto Rico (when they used to qualify instead of the USA, that is).

The republic of ireland is not part of the uk in any way shape or form, we r not part of GB and would never play under any such headings and we do not have the same army we dont fight in any of the uk wars. The uk is scotland england whales and northern ireland which was lost to the english but we did get back 26 of 32 counties after the 1916 rising and our civil war.I WANT TO MAKE THIS VERY CLEAR TO ALL OF YE WHO OBVIOUSLY NEVER OPENED A HISTORY BOOK!!!!!!!

1. All four countries have their own governements. All four contries have their own citizenships.

2. The UK does *not* - I repeat does *not* represent Ireland. The UK has Northern Ireland - not the Republic of Ireland, which is very much NOT a part of the UK.

I know that all of these four countries have their own governments , etc. and I really hate to say this but I when it suits England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland, their all known as one but when it doesn't suit them and it's more profitable to be divided they represent themselves individually.

because even thought being the British Empire, all those countries still have their own government and authorities, they are all just commonwealth to England, like Canada. so they have their own regulations and whatnot. and when it comes to sports, each country deserves a chance to shine on their own.
