Do you mean manually transfer files? The answer to that is "No." As soon as I plug my iPod into my computer iTunes automatically launches and automatically transfers songs (and/or any adjustments I've made to songs in the equalizer, preferences, etc) directly to the iPod.

You can, however, set your iTunes Preferences (note: iTunes Preferences, not iPod!) so that you can manually download tunes to the iPod.

Do you have to put music on your iPod?? Yes, but as I said above, that can all be done once music is in iTunes and your iPod is plugged into your computer.
