Hi.
The frame on my Ninja 500 that holds up the headlight and dials lost a screw and is now hanging. I replaced it with a bolt w/ a socket head but it will not hold. Someone said to use a lock nut. But it wont use a lock nut, it needs a bolt. Is there such a thing as a lock bolt? Should I have it welded? Use an over the counter product?

Use a thread locker such as Loc-Tite or some other anaerobic compound.

A cheap trick is to slightly damage the thread on the bolt, not enough to prevent it from being used, and only in the middle. This way the damaged thread will require some extra force to tighten and will tend not to loosen as easily.

However, I still favor using Loc-Tite grade 242. You should be able to find it in an automotive store.

You slip the lock washer over the bolt before you put it on.

All I have to say is LOCKTITE...Red Locktite to be specific.

I used to ride an old rigid mounted Harley sportster and stuff would rattle loose alot, but not after I used red locktite on everything that rattled...

Got me one of those Softails now with the vibration isolated twin-cam...sure is nice...
