Ok... not blockbusters!!!
i'm talking about the GAY film fest, films that really show who we are, not some fake cowboys (a man who doesn't cry or scream when a guy is punching his *** is really fake!!!)

The humour aside, "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" was quite touching and not fake (can' t say the same for the American remake, though - I mean Wesley Snipes?). "Wilde" is beautifully shot (added bonus: Jude Law in the buff) but I think my all time fave was Harvey Fierstein's "Torch Song Trilogy" (yes, it's schmaltzy and yes he camps it up, but still...).

But to answer your question it's to do with budget and, historically, few self-respecting actors would take on a gay role for fear that the audience would look at them unsympathetically or, worse, think that they were gay (as if!). Either that or the only gay characters were tormented, evil and vilified!

So if nothing else, Brokeback goes to show that times have changed somewhat. It might not be the best movie ever, but I'd argue it's a landmark.

Not all of them are corny, fake and shot really badly. You really need to see "Boys Don't Cry" and "Torch Song Trilogy". Stop wasting your time on the ones that are shot this way and I bet you will find some really good ones out there.

Well, it's true that almost all "gay movies" r very fake, but that's because almost evryone has the wrong idea of what being gay is...
I think that just like with straight ones, there r lots of types of gay, what I mean is that r straight-looking gays, femme gays, gothic gays, rock gays, etc......

A single movie can catch all this, I mean, being gay is kinda complicated, straight ppl don't know it so they watch thoes movies n think that's the reality, that's the way the wrong concept is created...

I find good "gay movies": Touch of Pink and Brockeback Mountain; I love La Mala Educación, but is kinda fake...

I think its because of money........gay films are pretty much small budget and therefore not the greatest film.........now if Spielberg were to do one, I'm sure it'd be fabulous! and as others mentioned, there are some good flicks out there.

Not all of them are bad. I haven't really seen that many though. Have you seen Mysterious Skin? I thought that was a really good movie.

Have you seen Brokeback Mountain? It certainly doesn't fall in that category.
