Crunches will tone your ab muscles but do not burn enough calories to lose weight. If you want to burn calories fast and increase your metabolism without spending money on a fitness club or expensive equipment I would suggest you take up running. Just invest in some good supportive running shoes. If you've never run before you should start out walking, like I did, and gradually add running intervals. I would start out with a brisk 30 minute walk first thing in the morning. Make sure you stretch before and after to prevent joint injury. After a few days try adding a running interval of maybe 5 or 10 minutes. listen to your body, it will tell you when it's had enough. Increase the amount of time you run gradually until you are walking 5 minutes, running for 30, then cool down by walking for 5 minutes, so your total workout is 40 minutes long. At first you will not see any decrease in your weight because your body will be adding muscle and muscle weighs more than fat but it also burns more calories. After a few weeks you should start seeing the pounds melt off. You can also add yoga or pilates 2-3 times a week to tone and firm your muscles. You'll get more results than from crunches alone. If you want some diet tips as well, contact me, I would love to share my secrets!

No. Crunches DO NOT help in weight loss. They barely do anything except minor stregthening of partial abdominal muscles.

Cardio activity is best. This is activity that is going to raise your heart rate. Running in the good ol' outdoors is my personal favorite, but you could also go to the gym and do a treadmil or eliptical machine. Sports are also a good way to raise your heartrate, especially thinks like basketball, so gather up some friends and go play. If you're way out of shape, just try taking a brisk walk.

Crunches are meant to be used as a spot target to build your abs. Unfortunately, when done correctly, they only build in the upper abs, but without cardio exercise to burn fat and regular diet to help keep it off, you'd never even be able to tell, because it get buried under fat layers.

Consult your physician first. I have done a little of everything and nothing takes the weight off like running. Couple that with a good healthy diet (no sugar drinks, snacks, no white pasta, no sweats instead high fiber diet and watch the red meat, never get seconds, eat lots of fruit every day and veggies too) and you will lose signifigant weight within 3 to 6 months.

All it takes is disipline.
Good luck!

crunches are most excellent for the abdomen. I don't think there is a quick fix, per se, but just eat really healthy, cut out sugar and pastas, and try to start jogging or walking really fast. You'll feel better as well as look better.

Cardio is the best choice (running, stairs, rowing, ect) crunches won't help you lose weight, but they'll make the stomach area look better once you do.

running. swimming. aerobics

anything that makes you sweat like crazy, breathe really fast and makes your heart beat fast. there are no shortcuts.

crunches are alright. unless you do them a lot, they probably won't make you lose too much weight (compared to aerobic activity described above)
