have many older VHS movies what is needed to copy them to HD and then burn to DVD-R

You can get an adaptor (like a Dazzel) that attaches to a VCR or camcorder and to a USB port to pull the movie into a program like studio 9. Be warned, however, that if it is a commercial tape you will get a poor quality movie plus, even under the best possible conditions, it will never equal the quality of a DVD. I have converted some family tapes to DVD, they are watchable but the quality is not what we expect from a DVD.

It is, but you need some hardware to do it. First, you need a graphic card that has video input (so you can uploado the VHR video to your computer), you'll also need a CD or DVD burner to burn the uploaded video to the cdrom. You can pick among several brands for the graphic card among them are the cards with the ATI chip, or GEO cards.
