If you're talking about musical instruments, there would often be fiddles or violins, some type pf flute or recorder, or some small type of drum. Musicians were another way for pirate captains to show off to others their status.

What type of instrument?

He uses a sword or cutlass as an instrument of death. Maybe a hornpipe if he's playing music. I've seen references to squeezeboxes too.

What do you mean? Are you asking what type of musician it is most common for a pirate to be? I would say they were too busy raping and pilaging to master the delicate art of the pan flute.
