Find MHMR in your phone book under State services. Even if you don't have one in your town, they will make arrangements for you to get to them if you have the need, or they may make weekly trips to your town for meetings. Also, your regular doctor/doctor's office should be able to give you some names locally. Here are just a few websites you can check out that has a lot of information:

Just remember that you're not alone!! Millions of people all over the world suffer from this very real illness, and there is help available to you no matter where you live. The trick is to find it, and go to the appointments, and take your meds if that is what is needed. I tell myself every single morning that today is going to be a good day, and I won't let anyone screw it up. Most of the time, it works; however, when it doesn't, I tell myself that it's okay, everybody is entitled to a bad day every so often, and I do have tomorrow to try again. Don't give up! You have already taken the first step...

First you have to ask yourself if you are more comfortable in a group setting or on a one on one basis. One option you have is to come to places like this. These types of sites are sort of designed for things like that. I have been where you are. Feeling like no one understands and needing a "professional" opinion but not having the money is depressing in itself. Sometimes a neutral, outside person's opinion helps a lot. Part of it is also just getting it out. Writing/typing and talking about what is bothering you or going on in your life relieves a lot of stress. You may find someone who you like talking to making it easier to open up and deal with your problems and they can act as a counselor. All a counselor really is (or should be) is someone you can confide in. If you find it isn't working then you may need to see your doctor to explore other options for dealing with your issues. Take one step at a time because it is all you can do.

There are charitable groups dealing with depressing as well as free counselling services in most countries. Best way to start is to contact your local town hall or social services office. They will have the details of what is locally available to you.

There are plenty of group on yahoo that could help you. You can try community services as well. YMCA and YWCA, MHMR....there are plenty of services out there....Look in the phonebook and just start calling some of the state or local services. I have been there, and I was able to get help that way.

try searching Yahoo Groups for depression, there should be quite a few chat groups.

If you are seriously depressed and having bad thoughts might I suggest a quick trip to your local emergency room or county hospital for diagnosis and medication.

Do you have a church near by? That would be the best choice and they wouldn't charge someone who couldn't afford it. Call the churches in your area and let them know what your needs are. Good luck.
