He may not want to see a doctor, but your friend needs to see one ASAP! The liver is an extremely important organ, and only a doctor can tell him if it's damaged. If your friend drinks alcohol, it's urgent that he stop right now! Alcohol will further damage his liver. Get him to see a doctor any way that you can! Good luck!

How did he find out that his liver is bad? Did he consult a doctor?
He does need to see a medical person and so much can be done today that it would surprise you. He needs to see someone, the tests are not bad and do not hurt, so not to worry,

Well if he doesn't consult a doctor how does he even know his liver is going bad? You can tell him nothing, unless you are a practicing internal medicine doctor. Tell him that he better get his butt to a doc if he seriously thinks something is wrong, otherwise he just may be playing a sympathy game....

Well, unless your friend is a third-year medical student who has already performed liver function tests through a qualified laboratory, I would suggest he be seen by a physician.
NO ONE can diagnose liver damage or failure conclusively without tests performed by qualified physicians. Where are his parents. If you are a "really good friend," I suggest you call his parents--or have your parents call his parents---something other than expecting to find any medical advice on a public board.

If his liver is going bad there is no way that he can get it back to normal himself. He has to get on medication and treatments. The longer he waits the worse the situation can become. So be a friend and advise him to see a physician.

stop drinking alcohol and drink 8 glasses of water daily for at least 21 days. but he must not miss doing this for even a day. then his liver will gradually get better.
although if he has viral hepatitis (eg hep B or hep C), this won't help and he needs to see a doctor!
