A midi file, unlike most music, doesn't have the actual music stored in the file. Instead, it contains information about the song, and the computer reads and plays it. it's almost like sheet music for a computer. It shows the computer the notes and the computer plays it. That's why most midi files are only about 50k. To connect a midi device to a computer, you needto make sure you have a midi cable and a midi card in your computer. if not, you'll need to go buy them. Then just attach it to the computer with the cable, open up the midi software that you should also have, and you should be ready to go. I haven't acually hooked up a midi device before, so there might be a little bit of setup stuff that i don't know about, but other that that it should all be right.

its a Musical Instrument Digital Interface. Most of them can connect through a serial or USB port. Then you just hook your keyboard to it.
