I don't know that there are four aspects for communication, but I believe there are a few.

The most important step is to listen. This is a skill which many people lack; they simply have no patience or they simply don't understand how important it is to hear what the other individual is saying.

The next step is to understand- that is, process what you've just heard, and reiterate it so that you can confirm with the other person you've got what they're saying.

After confirming that you are on the same page, the third step is to think- not only think about what you will say, but how you will frame what you say. In other words, present your words in a way the other person can clearly understand. If you are a physicist trying to explain fission to a non-physicist, it may not be best to use formulas and physics jargon.

Last step- speak, but speak slowly and concisely. Speak too fast and you're more likely going to interject "uh, um, like" into your words, and make it difficult for the other person to listen to you.

By golly! There ARE four steps!
