You can give your baby any name in the world that you want to. My daughter was given my great grandmother's last name. Also if you think it is going to work between your boyfriend and you I would suggest that he sign a parental affidavit. This would allow your boyfriend to claim to be the babies father and then the dead beat would be completely out of it. Good Luck!

I think you can. Provided the hospital doesn't know that he's not the natural father, he can pose as the dad, and then you can give the baby his last name. But, if the real dad steps up to the plate, you're gonna have a hard time explaining why you did it.

If you had met me at 23, you never would have guessed I'd have turned out like I am now. My ex got pregnant, and she took off on me, not the other way around. But, of course, her story, at the time, was different, even though she'd moved away with a new boyfriend, and I was still single in the same town.

She told this big sob story to anyone who would listen about me being some big monster. Truth be told, I had been... until I found out I had a child on the way. I quit the drugs, quit drinking, and started taking work a little more seriously, intending to start saving for college for my child. Then, one day, my ex showed up at work, 7 months pregnant, on my birthday. She just stopped to tell me that her new boyfriend was going to be the dad, and I was out of the picture. I was crushed.

Some of us take parenting very seriously.

Talk to your ex. See how he feels about it. If he's a dead beat, like you say, he'll be all for it. But he deserves some input on the decision. After all, he is the dad.

Most states will let you as long as your boyfriend signs papers stating he is the father of the child. If the birth father finds out he may contest it but it doesn't sound like he'd be able to afford a DNA test. Also it is my understanding that you can name your baby anything you want as long as it is not for purposes to commit fraud or do harm. Because you are not married, whomever signs up to give the baby's last name is the one the baby will have. Or you can give the baby your name and after the wedding have the baby's name changed.

you need to get the dead beat to sign away his rights to your daughter. aafter all she is his baby. if you dont it will be impossible to make him pay child support with the baby carrying another mans name he will say the baby isnt his. he may anyway. by having him sign away all rights this leaves it open for your new boyfriend after you are married to adopt your baby. this way the baby can have his last name with out most of the hassle. you can just give the baby the ney boyfriends name but be prepared if you want child support you wont get it without dna tests because of the last name. whats put on the birth certificate is who the go after.the new boyfriend will be expected to pay support not the actual father. just be careful

Actually, I had my son before I got married and since his dad wasn't there for delivery or to sign documents they told me I had to give him my last name. If someone is there and signs accepting responsibility then they'll use his last name. That was my experience in California. I don't know about other states. They told me it was because if the father wasn't there then how can I attest for him that he is the father. If your boyfriend is there and signs I don't think they'll question him. My huband who isn't the father adopted my son and till this day (he's now 7) calls him dad and knows of no other. You should call the hospital you're giving birth at and find out just to make sure.

Yes you can do that, are you going to put him on the birth certificate? Do you know all about the actual father's health from the family line? This is crututal to your child..In the event that she has a condition that requires special attention he might need to be notified. But as far as the baby goes you can name what ever you want and are comfortable with

I'd really suggest getting married before the birth. That way you have a bit more security about him being around. No point in naming her after a guy that might leave you. But yes, technically you can name her whatever surname you want to (depending on the country).

Yes, but I wouldn't give your baby your boyfriends name. I know it sounds like a good idea now, but what happens if things don't work out? Will you want you daughter to have the last name of another ex? Just give her your name. It's safe!

you can give your unborn any last name you want exspecially if you want the dead beat to have nothing to do with the baby. if you give him/her your boyfriends last name at least you know even if the two of you break up she'll still have a real daddy.
