Read Platos the myth of the cave. Odds are, you will discover the debate that Plato pretty much decided that one will never know thw true form of anything, rather they will know its shadow, its imprint on things around it.

Another good source to consider would be the Dialogues of Xeno as it pertaioned to a cynic named Diogenes. Good stuff there

I think it had to do with all ideas being tangible objects, but in a different dimension.
