Sadly, nope. Too much greed and hatred. Add to that people who start wars over things like religion or money, and we have a better chance of becoming glowing piles of ash then "coming together like in Star Trek".

yes. just look how far we've come in the last 50 years in the US. yeah, there is still bigotry and we're fighting a stupid war. But it was not too long ago that black people had to drink from different water fountains and that gay people had to hide their gayness. When there is a drought somewhere in Africa, the whole world responds by sending grain.
It will take a long time, but we'll get there.

It isn't naive to have dreams. As long as you believe in them and put them at your 'centre', then you have a chance of doing something beautiful for yourself and mankind as a whole.
The United States was a dream once, so was the European Union (both still partly unfulfilled dreams, I grant you).
Beam up!

I wish. But people are so conceited and proud and rude and obnoxious that they can't get along well without people who like them or clones of them. And ps, this is not naive, there is no such thing as a dumb question. A dumb question is the one not asked!;)

I wish. I just think war is inevitable. Cultures are so different, with different views. I'd love it, but people would want to keep their languages and customs. I've asked myself the same question, you know :)

Seemed to me they were fighting the Klingons about every week, the nameless red shirt crew member was always getting killed.

Yes ... but it's going to be because we've been forced to unify against Klingons or Romulins.
