I grew up in Detroit and lived for years in NC. Generally in NC if a it didn't have a ball that bounced it wasn't a sport. As an old Red Wings fan, it just seems weird. Globalization I guess.

It's not like this is the first time Carolina has been to the finals. Before the Hurricanes, Raleigh had the Ice Caps (ECHL) hockey team for most of the 1990s (the team folded because of the impending arrival of the Hurricanes), so it's not like hockey is completely a novelty there.

I agree, I live in North Carolina and have my whole life. Basketball is the sport of choice here (with the nationally ranked teams on tobacco road). I went to a Carolina Hurricanes game back in December and was blown away by how many fans were there. The same place where my North Carolina State Wolfpack play basketball was more packed out with hockey fans. I was thrilled. I am just getting into hockey and love it. I hope the Canes go all the way and bring the Stanley Cup not only to the US (since so many people think hockey is just a Canandian sport), but to the Southern United States, the great state of North Carolina. GO CANES!!

I don't think it's weird. Jim Rutherford, a former Red Wings goalie who was chosen as NHL Executive of the Year this year, put together an awesome team and an awesome staff.

Something you may or may not know... the Hurricanes' owner, Pete Karmanos, is from the Detroit area, and his interest in hockey goes way, way back... long before he bought the franchise. So, it's not like he's just some rich guy who wanted a sports team.

the opportunities of triumphing the Cup? a million.9% The Sharks slightly beat the Wings contained in the three video games they gained, so enable's assume that each and each game left in this sequence has a 50/50 possibility. if so, the opportunities of the Wings triumphing the sequence is a million in 8. in the event that they win the sequence, they are going to in all probability face the Canucks, who in spite of being extra constructive than Detroit contained in the common season, has been suffering contained in the playoffs. because of the fact the Canucks would have living house ice benefit, i'm going to provide them a fifty 5/40 5 side over the Wings (living house communities have had extra or less a .550 triumphing share in present day playoffs), making the opportunities of the wings making the Finals 11/320 or approximately 3%. provide the Wings a fifty 5% possibility in the event that they make the Finals (in view that they carry a extra constructive common season mark than the two Boston and Tampa), and the probabilities of triumphing all of it come to extra or less a million.9%

Shouldn't everyone get a chance at greatness? I guess you are just a little too used to greatness being a Wings fan. Allow for the greatness to be spread around a little bit... it's no stranger than Tampa winning or Florida going there first year as a team.

It's not weird considering that in pro sports, the players don't actually come from the city they're representing. As far as I know, there aren't any NC natives playing in the NHL.

It's all Canadians, man.

Flyers fan since 74 here. I know what you mean. it does seem weird in much the same way as the Jamaican Bobsled team. But more power to them. At one time Philly wasn't considered a hockey city.

I've lived in North Carolina for over 26 years now. The State is full of surprises and a mass of contradictions. I love it! :D
