One has nothing to do with the other. Do you want to go to a communistic society where every person is paid the same amount no matter what they do. Or would your idea be that those of us that have worked very hard and had the drive to earn enough and probably more than we need just give it to those that don't have so much no mater why.
.....If you are one of those that thinks we were all created equal then you sure have a lot to learn. We were not created and we are not all equal. Some win some loose, that is life and always will be.

State run lotteries are a lie that politicians tell us and too many of us fall for.
So your misunderstanding of it is a practical response from someone who is not seeing a benefit.
They say this is benefiting the Schools, but the money is spent on schools throughout the state, not just in the communities that need it and more specifically in the communities where the most lottery tickets are sold.
It is a sad truth that there are many more folks near or below the poverty level that are contributing to the lottery coiffures than those who could afford to waste a few dollars each week.
So the ones who should be benefiting most are wasting their money on a system that has yet to deliver.
Some cities would rather spend their tax money building a new Football stadium than remodeling/repairing their school districts.
The state of Maryland paid almost $200 million in cash and tax exempt bonds. Both, the cash and the debt service on these bonds are to be paid from lottery proceeds. The remainder was paid by the Ravens - $5 million of that is from personal seat licenses.

I am glad I am not the only one that feels this way.
While we are at it, why do sports & television stars earn millions of dollars? Are they contributing that much of a service to society that they are worth that much?
Why don't people that do not have to work do charity work instead of taking jobs away from people that actually need jobs?
Why is that people in prison can get cable television, yet I work hard everyday for a living & am barely able to afford the necessities? I do not waste my money on drink or drugs yet I am lucky to buy new clothes if I need them.
Why does America have to give away billions of dollars every year to support other countries when we have people starving in our own country?

The lottery funds a lot of services. As for game shows. They are making more money than they ever give away.
