Somebody's posted a question about a magpie rhyme but it's different to the one I know (that I've forgotten the end of):-

1 for sorrow
2 for mirth
3 for a death
4 for a birth
5 for heaven
6 for hell
7 for_______________?

How many different magpie rhymes are there?

....

magpie rimes don't really make as much sense as they used to. until about the second world war the magpie was a rare bird in the english countryside, and very rarely seen in large groups.

this is no longer true - you now see them as commonly as starlings.
