I started my very first job in October 2001, working as an intern in a consulting firm that only had about 7 people. I didn't have much work to do, and I was constantly asking people for more projects, but I was left to surf the internet for hours each day and that was all I did since no one had work for me. So at the end of the year I was told that the company couldn't afford to pay interns so they were laying me off. The job is on my resume, but it wasn't a good experience, I have no skills that resulted from my holding that job, and I have no one there that I've listed as a reference. Basically it's on my resume to show that I have work experience dating back to 2001, should I just take it off my resume??

You should keep it on there to show that you were holding a job. It's not your fauilt if they didn't give you much to do, you can list all of your basic duties and any extra projects that you worked on... arrange your wording to make it seem a little more important than it was. A lot of times, potential employers are looking to see if you are able to hold a job.

Are you kidding?

Interning is a great thing to have on a resume.

Include it... You don't have to say YOU HATED IT... or WASN'T Busy. And for sure... leave off the "SURF THE INTERNET" part.

Potential employers are suspicious of GAPS... so if you were doing SOMETHING... that shows continuity...

Good luck

Keep it on the resume and spin it! Use the right words and you can convey the energy and drive you brought to the position!

Leave it on. It's better than having a "gap of unemployment"
