I can't get my head around it. All the time I hear people moaning about The English ,and all the nasty things our ancestors did , centuries ago to people and therefore, those people hate us. How comes it does not stop them from wanting to come and live amongst us?

Yesterday on the radio, there was a West Indian gentleman, Jamaican born discussing who he would be supporting in the World Cup. He lives in London and has done for 45 years but said he will be supporting Trinidad and Tobago over England, and WHEN they go, he will switch to Brazil????

What is that all about? He has spent most of his life in England and is house and employed here, been fed and educated here.

Is it just me that is offended by these sort of people in England, and Britain for that matter?

Shaz_t.. any chance you could write that in English? I have no idea what you are saying apart from I shouldn't get worked up about it.

I am not worked up sweetie, just p**d off at people coming here and disrespecting the LIVING ENGLISH ... Who are in no way, along with the current government, responsible for what our Ancestors did.

How the world will ever have peace and harmony is beyond me. There is too much "you did this to me 500years ago" for there to ever be world peace.

They come and live here because they know they can do what they want, they build mosques over here, if we built a church over there, we'd get beheaded. Like someone on the news said if war broke out between England and their birth country, they would support their birth country because it is their home.If it's their home why don't they go back?

I don't hate the English. Infact, many of them are really nice people!!! Few of them are the coolest people I have ever seen. I haven't been to England or UK but I speak with them everyday over the phone. I have always been fond of the English / British culture as well as the English accent. I love to imitate that accent! I just don't like the fact that most of the English people tend to keep to themselves and aren't very friendly. Apart from that, they are good people. And the younger generation is much more friendly and open.

Nobody hates the English.England is so popular that they are having to restrict access. This is why immigrants are being charged £1000 a time to come here.Where in the world could you drop off the back of a lorry penniless and days later have a nice house fully furnished for you.Where in the world would you get handfuls of money every week for not working?Where in the world can you say and do what you want?Where in the world have you got more rights and protection than the natives?England

Wasn't aware anyone hated the English, thought the USA took 1st place in that contest (who is most hated internationally). The world is made up of many different people and well, although we may LOVE living in one place the grass is always greener on the other side, or there may be a certain pride of the country one's family came from, I dunno. I have lived in three different countries (never England, though I HAVE visited there, quite lovely). But I have always held a place in my heart for the country which I was born (and still consider myself a citizen). I am currently living in Venezuela, and very much like it here, but am still sometimes homesick. As for rooting for a specific sports team (other than the country one lives in), well I don't know I don't follow sports but perhaps he thinks the English football team SUCKS, and is rooting based on what he thinks is a better team, and has nothing to do with the fact that he lives in England (and likes or doesn't like living there). Or perhaps the man is just trying to get a rise out of you.

As an American I understand where you are coming from. Seems like a lot of the world hates us (including a number of your countrymen) yet so many can't wait to come here and live. And it is not just the current political climate that causes the animosity. (Although some silly children seem to think so--we were just as reviled with Slick Willie in office.)

Some just hate because that is all they are good at. Others are jealous of the lifestyle you enjoy. Others simply cannot stand the idea of a free people or a people who don't live in the 6th or 7th century.

I second your views.
People are happy to take the good that England (too liberally) dishes out, but are not willing to take the whole package. I don't expect immigrants to drop their own cultural values, but they should at least attempt to adopt a more patriotic and APPRECIATIVE view of those who have actually been there to help them.
I don't see Trinidad & Tobago or Brazil spending their tax payers money to house and educate people in need, yet they get all the glory.
I think that the world should see England as more than an over-generous, soft-hearted meal-ticket for free-riders, and understand that in return for housing, education, medical treatment etc... we want some thanks and recognition (and for them to support our football team !!)

the whole world hates the english because they are greedy lill asses who invaded almost all of the world and robbed their treasure!
people come to england to live here because there's good money here and so they can live a good standard of life of their own money ((which was robbed by your ancestors centuries ago)). or may be you should ask your government to return all the wealth they've robbed from around the world and see what happens? :)

ohh btw...i'm indian! i'm in the UK too earning good money :D return all my country's wealth and i'll return home ;) anyway i miss the indian beauty and the culture and the happy life people live there!! no offence...but england is pretty boring, do you know that? :)

and just to make clear -- i don't hate the english or anything! i've met some really good people over here and i like them all. of course there are some bad asses too...but they're everywhere in the world! its just "england factor" you know? unfortunately your ancestors did some really bad deeds for which you're suffering this.

May be I am the exception, but I do not hate the English. I am fond of their language, adopted it as mother tongue, although it is my third language. I love the wry, self-derogatory sense of humour of the English and would love to spend some time in the Green Pleasant Land. My best teachers were English. My accent is almost cockney. I lost a job with the Americans because of my refusal to renounce my RP accent

all those people use your country. me too! travelling from the UK to Europe is so easy. saving money is easy because the pound is so strong. so why is the government still letting people into your beloved country if they are just using it? because what makes the UK's economy so good is because of all the foreigners. everyone knows Brits are very lazy and are prepared to stay in the same lame job for years and years ( of course there is exceptions ) therefore not contributing to the economy.
Must be hard to hear, but that is how I see it. Hope your are better than your fellow football crazy Brits.

P.S Not a football fan, but good luck in Germany!

The English are the best. Pure and simple. Everyone else is just jealous. Take the complete idiot further up for example who assumes there is no difference between an English person and a British person.
I wish people would think before they answer.

But yes i completely agree, if they dont like it here then they should go back to where they came from.
