In short... they are insanely jealous of our footballing skills. Their team is poo and ours is not. It's all nonsense and banter. Say for example the swedish were invading our shores what would the Scottish do?... They'd get their act together and come and batter anyone trying to invade England... They love us really & most of us these days have a relation from one of our neighbouring nations..
Its all crap and to be honest, you should hold your head up and high fly your St George Cross with pride. Make them even more envious.. muhahahaha

Simple, some people live in the past and cannot get past certain aspects of history they like to dwell on. It is all about interpretation of history. England did treat Scotland pretty badly many centuries ago and they like to always remember that part. What about the Romans or the Vikings, they fought against Scotland too...
Anyway politcs aswell as being neighbours creates a hatred between the two teams and ermm.. Envy.
England have a chance to win the World Cup.
Jason Scotland plays for Trinidad and Tobago.

This hatred is not about football...watch "Braveheart" and get back to us...this IS a history question....look at the Middle East you can not just sweep the past under a rug and forget about it they have been warring centuries...you are an Englishman in Scotland you should be more aware of this than the average guy.Lets look at it like this I would rather see a million Scots wearing "anyone but England" t-shirts than a million pissed off Scots coming down with guns and bombs for a good war.Lets leave the fighting in the Middle East this is a much better way to express your feelings toward a country and it's a lot more fun!!!

The reason is pure ignorance, only the really ignorant can hold a grudge for so long and so fierce. The less educated who only listen to one side of the story particularly in history will always hate. I know the English did not do good things in Scotland they did not in Ireland as well but that was a long time ago. The English in turn have suffered from other nations but do not hate them, if you wanted to we could really go back and hate the Vikings, or the Romans, the French, the Germans and even the Americans but WHY would we now ??
So who can say what if anything is going on in a Scotsman's head especially when it comes to football
Ally's Army Huh!

I don't get it. I know loads of people who supported Rep of Ireland last world cup and Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
It's all history. Ok the English oppression of Scotland, Ireland and Wales was a bad thing but that was the Middle Ages we've moved on from that or should have. England are hated the world over for history commited by the people before us. But its History and we should learn from it. If we don't we run the risk of letting History repeat itself.
All you Scots, Welsh and Irish just remember we'd all support you if we weren't in the tournament so lets have a bit of solidarity we all have to live on the same two islands.

It is not so much the English players or team, its more the John Motson's and Jimmy Hills' and English wannabees like Alan Hansen (who forgets where he started) that gets up our noses. You would think after 40 years the English media would shut up. Jimmy Hill for example is a know all, knows sod all, who described David Narey's goal v Brazil in 1978 as nothing more than a toepoke. Call it what you want, but as a Scot, def NOT supporting Engerland in World Cup. Scotland will be there in the form of Jason Scotland of Trinidad & Tobago, who also have a number of scots based players. Thats called rivalry too lol

As a Scotsman I do not hate any particular Englishman/woman, most Scots being likewise.
It needs a review of Anglo/Scots history for you to come to an understand the problem.
For centuries the Scotland and we the Scots were an independent country and nation. With our own Monarchy, government and church. Being a peaceful nation we were trading with other countries, when England did not exist as a seperate nation.
It took people such as Canute & William the Conqueror to make false claims on the land that is Scotland. They claimed Lord Paramount over us. Thus beginning centuries of warfare and strife between us.
We do not hate you. We just do not trust you and your supercilious ways.
THERE`LL ALWAYS BE AN ENGLAND FOR AS LONG AS SCOTLAND`S THERE TO FIGHT YOUR BLOODY BATTLES AND DO ALL THE OTHER DIRTY WORK YOU CANT DO FOR YOURSELVES.

R-e-a-l-l-y? After so many years they still can't let bygones-be-bygones? If they dislike the English, there's still no reason whatsoever to cheer the Swedish, Trinis, Paraguans - it's football! Even Asians are wearing the England jerseys and t-shirts because they love the brand of English football and the players... the Scots should at least show some kind of British fervour instead of going against people of the same nationality. This is distressing news indeed... and disgraceful.

Read the history of Scotland, and especially the chapters on the English oppression of the country and the war crimes they committed against the Scots. Then you may understand why the English are not very much liked in Scotland (or anywhere really). And this feeling is not limited to football fans.

For me it's not about hating England, I just don't want them to win because they are our biggest sporting rivals.
It's like asking a Rangers fan to support Celtic or an Arsenal fan to support Spurs. It just aint going to happen unless we have a vested interest in the result.
If Wales ever get there or either of the Irish sides, I still wouldn't support them. If Scotland are not there then for the sake of football I wil always favour the team who plays the best football, which for the last four years or so is Brazil.

Try telling your media, commentators etc to stop all the hype everyone is so sick of it already and it's not even started yet. I don't know why so many ppl are getting upset cos England aren't going to win the world cup. No way! They just aren't good enough - pure and simple.
Why should the Scots support the AULD ENEMY - we would rather cut all ties and be an independent country like we used to be.
