Actually, according to the theories of Howard Gardner, who introduced the concept of "Multiple Intelligences" in 1983, the two concepts are essentially the same. As research on the brain continues, scientists are uncovering a growing body of evidence that these theories are true.

Dr. Gardner felt that the notion of intelligence that was based on I.Q. testing was too limited and proposed that there are eight different intelligences: Linguistic (word smart), Logical-mathematical (number/reasoning smart), Spatial (picture smart), Bodily-Kinesthetic (body smart), Musical (music smart), Interpersonal (people smart), Intrapersonal (self smart), and Naturalist (nature smart).

The important thing to keep in mind, whether you're tossing about terms like "intelligence," "talent" or "ability" is that this just addresses human POTENTIAL. Just because someone is "gifted" with the "right stuff" to be a dancer, musician, or rocket scientist, it means nothing without the proper training to bring about actual skill development in those fields. In addition to training, motivation and determination also play a huge factor. Therefore, someone who is less talented but who is willing to work harder can often find success while the person who is gifted but lazy will not.

The bottom line is that skills can be taught to virtually everyone, but at different rates depending on their innate abilities and motivation. Some exceptions apply, such as teaching dance to people who aren't flexible.

Intelligence is intellectual talent, a subset of overall talent. A person with a subpar IQ could be an outstanding musician, athlete, craftsman, etc.

Intelligence is your ability to think and reason and compare.

Talent is something you are good at, which could be thinking, reasoning and comparing, but could also be a physical skill such as a sport or drawing or playing and instrument or hooking your foot behind your head.
