money and infrastructure.its not just about hosting the games in 9 stadiums that pass safety checks.you have also got to move the people around.and have the facilities to cater for about 1million visitors all in one go apart from the normal ones.and after all most of the African countries are crying out for world aid.and are largely third world countries.

An African team will indeed win the World Cup one day make no mistake. Probably sooner than we think as well.

But to host it they need all the stadiums and facilities for the teams, fans, broadcasting crews etc. I don't think any country in Africa has this just yet but I agree and African nation should host it. The FIFA idea of rotaiting it between continents is a good idea because it would give third world countries a chance. It would also allow all the people who have never even seen a football match on TV a chance to see a World Cup match.

Africa will host a cup soon definetley its not fair to not allow them to.

If England go out I'm supporting Ghana and the Ivory Coast.

Its probably more to do with the infrastructure needed to host it and how to cope with the vast numbers of people who go. I don't think its any secret that it costs a vast sum of money to host the world cup, not quite as much as the Olympics mind you. Obviously there is a balance here between how much is spent hosting it and how much money can be made from tourism etc. The problem there is that the money spent to host it comes from central budgets either government or the countries FA where as revenues made will go to private businesses. This of course will prompt a debate on whether African nations shoudl spend this money on development and basics such as sanitation or fighting AIDS. (am not voicing an opinion just saying that this is part of the debate)

In terms of Nigeria, it never actually won the bid. They pulled out in order to support the South African bid. African has never hosted the world cup before but South Africa is seen as favourite for 2010.

Under a new policy FIFA will rotate the host continent. That means that England will not get a chance to host for quite a few years to come!

South Africa is hosting the World Cup the next time, ie 2010.
That is the first time it will be hosted on the continent of Africa. I really do not think it has to do with politics. FIFA actually has to be commended for not allowing country politics to interfer with its organisation. If anything it has to do with money. Most African countries lack the infastructure to host such a huge tournament. But as the continent progresses, more countries will be able to host it. It begins with SA!! And I plan to be there.

South African was the one(it wasn't Nigeria) that was meant to host this year's world cup but because of the politics within FIFA it went to Germany.
However they're getting the one in 2010.

For the rest of Africa, I assume it is a lack of infrastructure to host the event.

Hosting the World Cup is a huge undertaking by any nation, and until very recently there weren't any African countries with the necessary infrastructure. Even in Europe, many bids to host the World Cup are made by a coalition of neighbouring countries, as nations such as Belgium are not considered capable of holding the tournament on their own.

As for your second question, I don't believe that the World Cup was taken away from Nigeria. South Africa were second in the ballot to hold this year's competition.

However, FIFA have now made it their policy to rotate the tournament among all continents, meaning that from now on Africa should host a tournament every 20 years.
