I have a neighbour who plays loud trance music almosy 24/7. Bith myself and several neighbours havev gone round to his place and asked him to turn it down (which he will not, although he is never offenisive). Someone got the law involved but apparently the music is something stupid like two hundredths of a decibel lower than the legal maximum and so we lose out there.

The music is realy anti-social and offputting and reverberated down our streets as well as pounding through the walls.

Is there anything we/I can do, what do you seriously suggest? I don't want to have to hire a leg-breaker as they can be expensive!

Thanks

as petty and childish as it may be, maybe you and/or your neighbors should do something to annoy this person. mow your lawn at the crack of dawn:-)

My mother in law had a similar problem. She called the authorities cause they were either playing TV or music too loud or rowing all night. Every time they cam to check the 'decibels' they were hardly making any noise at all. The guy from Noise pollution told her to but a decibel counter(I think that's what it was called) and she could record it herself. Might be an idea. You should ring the authorities again and ask if they sell one or where you could buy it. Failing that you could get a residence comity set up and write an official letter to him saying that if it doesn't stop you will consult a solicitor.

Hope it sorts itself out for you soon. Nothing worse!

Good Luck

Do you live in an Apartment complex? It would be the landlords job to get this person to tone down his music. If he does not comply at a respectful level, he might be evicted. Cops should be more involved for if several people have complained, and you guys ask to file a report on a regular basis, it's almost as if he is disturbing the peace. Any Cops out there that can give us some real perspective?

You might need to check the laws in your city.

Take him to court for noise polution!
It is against the law after a certain time at night-check out your rights. A letter from your lawyer/solictor may be a little more persuading than a friendly word or angry words to provoke him more.
Do it properly, he is breaking the law if all hours of night.
Another way, if adjoining the house then dig a hole in the wall and stick a speaker in it facing his. If he is awake odd hours, he'll be sleeping when you can play yours-classical works well! Lol.
But two wrongs never makes a right ;)

you can get a petition. Yes you can do that. Have the neighborhood sign it and go to the courts and get a summons that will make him turn the music down or be arrested for "disturbing the peace" My cousin did this to some ppl that were just rude and loud 24/7. It worked b/c face it no one wants to go to jail, even if it is over night.

Let each and every neighbour call the police and insist that they need to do something about it, If that does not work , let all your neighbours choose a day of the week and all of you should put your music loud at the same time for the same period.

You might have heard about tit for tat. All the affected neighbours should hire a drummer for a few days. As soon as your neighbour starts music, the drummer should start beatiing the drum very lodly in fron of the neighbour's home to disturb their concentration. As soon as your neighbour comes out to ask for stopping the drum, you may also ask to stop playing music.

I would suggest playing loud music of your choice back at him - at the very least it might make him turn his music up enough to be illegal. Personally I find Wagner at loud volume annoys nearly everyone except me (which is why I listen to it over headphones...)

But let your neighbours know what you're doing first!

does this person own the house or rent?
if rented tell his landlord/lady
if not
im sure if you speak to a police man nicely you will find out that your not allowed to play loud music or anything like that past 11pm. i think if you complaine enough they will have a word with this person.
if not declare war. if he has a car squirt battery acid or brake fuid on it. wait till they are asleep and play your music loud. spray round up all over thier plants and petrol on thier lawn (it kills the grass)
wow i love revenge lol
the best one if they have a dog feed it laxatives it wont harm the dog but they have a hell of a mess to clean up pmsl

I would think calling the police should do it. Have all of the neighbors call. Disturbing the peace can be anything from yelling, to music, to loud cars.

Best of luck to you. I have much sympathy for people with annoying neighbors. I suffer from them myself.

if you have enough neighbors complaining to the law, you should be able to get it worked out. you should be able to file a noise complaint with the police. the other thing you could try is getting all of your neighbors to play some kind of loud polka or bluegrass music when he plays his music loud, or better yet when he's not playing his music. good luck!
