Curiosity never killed my cat (though she fell in the bath and in the toilet before she learned about slipperiness).
My dog didn't just look up, he put his nose up as well! Very few people took it as the compliment he intended. "Mmm you smell good!" is not the way just anybody likes to be greeted.

Curiosity did kill the cat... but satisfaction brought him back!
I guess dogs can look up. Also down, left, right... unless the dog is in a cage or something. Dogs are only really curious about where the next meal is coming from and if they're going to get a walk anytime soon- pedigrees are pretty bright though, and you'll find them asking all sorts of questions. Like, 'how can I escape, and where can I get to after that?' ;)

i'm sure curiosity did kill many cats at some point, and dogs can only look straight up if they are in a sitting position. Something to do with their bone structure.

I have heard of the dog which had a bone in mouth and looked its refelection in river water and jumped in to get the OTHER bone
too and lost whatever it had in mouth. I dont know whether any cat too have such curiosity to get killed. I know of one cat which boasted of its visit to LONDON and that to the QUEENS chamber and hsaving reached there it showed its supermacy and successfully not only located a mouse hiding under the Queens chair, poor cat missed its golden opportunity to LOOK UP at HER MAJESTY THE ROYAL QUEEN in all her majestic royal robes with the Diamond Crown on head, but also frightened the life out of the mouse and returned back victoriously anf started to blabber its victory to all by tom toming it.So its curiosity did not kill it.
May be if it had tried to poke its nose in any of the rat catcher killer trap it might have got hit and got killed but so far there is no complaint filed by any pet lovers against their neighbours in any of the SPCAs or police stations.
As far DOGs they are said to have eyes to see the movements of LORD YAMA, the DEATH GOD and his aides, and they look up at the sky and give a long weeping whining sound , like that of a fox. Also they have a knack to bark at strangely dressed, shabbily dressed, unshaven rag pickers etc and the LAMBADIS
( a type of people who capture snakes, fox, squirrels, mangoose)and once one dog starts barking all the rest join together in a chorus and LOOK UP wards and bark.
There is proverb in TAMIL language which says
LET THE DOGS BARKING BY LOOKING UP AT THE SUN CONTINUE TO BARK!!!!
IGNORE THEM

Who says dogscan't look up? All the German Shepherds I owned looked up at me when they want something.Yes, curiosity can indeed kill the cat, or anyone else, if they get involved in a wreckless, or dangerous act.

No the cat was depressed so he started to listen to rap music and decided to shoot himself - as far as the dog thing - I'm not sure but I can tell you the reason a dog has so many friends is because he wags his tail instead of his tongue.
