That's a Frequently asked question which has its ups and downs somewhere between the lows and the ultra highs we can find a medium. It has something to do with being able to Resist the Capacity to Induce an answer in a free air situation.

A wave Lent is determined by its source and the energy creating it. Wave lengths can also be manipulated many ways, mechanically and electrically.
The higher the frequency the smaller the wave length and the lower the frequency the longer the wave lenght. For this reason, space comunications are usually in the UHF and Microwave radio range. These small wavelengths are small enough to escape our ionoshphere whearas, shortwave bounces of the ionoshphere called skip wave.
