I had sexual intercourse last night with my partner and I started bleeding quite heavily straight after. This has never happened before and I am still bleeding today. Does anyone know what might have caused this? Im 20

Well it could be many things, which would in the end can only be be confirmed by a doctor.
One reason is a possible I think its called an erosion, which is kinda like a graze on the cervix you can get this if things get a little rough.....which does heal its self in time.
It could be a vaginal cyst that you didn't know you had that has burst depending on flow a doc can easy see this with a speculum thing(those things used for a smear.)

It could also be symptomatic of other things which would be accompanied by other symptoms such as endometriosis which may or may not be accompanied by pain at intercourse , painful periods and really heavy blood flow at time of month, if you simply had a reasonable amount of blood that's not stopping and you are not due on your period in the next few days it may well have been a cyst but how ever I'm not a doctor just a had lots of life experience so if it doesn't settle down or gets worse its best you see the doc, but if your only talking about a small amount of spotting it may even be something like thrush or simply things got a bit rough the night before... hope this sheds a little light on your situation , by the way ..none of the above are usually a big deal so don't worry too much.

Well it sounds as if you have had sex before so if thats true its unlikely to be your hymen (membrane broken after your first time).
Could it be your period (maybe early or late) that happened to coinside with intercourse?
My only other suggestion would be an early miscarriage? You can miscarry before you even know you are pregnant and this displays as a heavy period. Even if you have used protection accidents can happen. As far as I know, if this is the case you don't need to do anything, the embyo would just be a clump of cells that you cant even see or at most a small clot of blood.

Or it could be the sign of an infection.

If you are concerned or the bleeding doesn't stop soon I would go to the doctor just to be sure. I would try not to worry though.

It really depends on how the sexual experience was. If it was rough and vigorous may be you eroded your vagina wall or cervix.
If this is the case you will feel pain or discomfort in the area. If it wasnt rough and you are not feeling any pain it could be due to a surge of oestrogen after you climaxed. It is normal and will stop after 2-3 days. In this case bleeding is not as heavy as a period.
If the bleeding was very heavy ie as heavy as a period, it is worth checking out with your doctor. Good luck.

This is completely naturtal and do not worry!
When you had sex your partner prob tore a piece of skin which is causing you to bleed. Leave it for a day and if it persists then go to the doc's tomorrow as it may be something. Don't worry too much...you would be in pain if it were more serious. I hope it stops x

I have had this problem before. I went to the doctors and had some tests for STI's and all came back clear. I was then referred to a gynaecolgist (cant spell) and they gave me a scan and an internal, all came out ok! nothing was found. I still sometimes bleed after sex, but i have been assured that nothing is wrong. But please go to your GP and get things checked out!!

Could be a cervical erosion they are very common in young girls who are on the pill and can cause bleeding during/after intercourse. Go to doc for SMEAR test anyway just to be on safe side.

Are you near time for your period? Semen makes the uterus contract which will bring on your period, sometimes even a few days early...it can also make you restart your period if you had finished your period within a couple of days before having sex.

It could be an erosion on your cervix which your partner has touched during sex. Best thing to do is get it checked out because it will give you peace of mind, we are not qualified to give you medical advice so see your doctor. Good luck
