My friends and I have the same debate, and we call it the "Blubber Theory". It is not scientific, but assume that since the body lose heat from being in the water for so long, it start to adapt to its environment by creating "blubber" to prevent excessive heat loss. N.B. This is not scientific, but the blubber is higher in swimmers who spend more time in the water and who dont alternate with another sport/activity.

Just because swimmerso also do jogging and cycling, why on earht do you think they will gain fat by swimming??? Using different sports to keep your bodyfat under control is common. You will NOT gain any fat by doing sports. It's just that different activities are good for training differnet bodyparts. That's it.

Why are you complaining? Size 0-1? Honey, you're ultra skinny and if you wan to tone your belly do some cardio and crunches. Must be nice to be a zero rather than a size 5-7

it depends when your thin you can increase body fat
because the water is cold and your body will develop
fat to control the temperature but if your fat or obese
you will have to swim minus 40 degrees Celsius for that effect
So it really depends
