OK I have a German girlfriend coming over for dinner tomorrow night, she is in need of moral support as she has just split with a long-term boyfriend. I am thinking of trying to cook some traditional German cuisine to remind her of home, but am unsure what to do- as we are in the UK do you know of anything simple I could try and that I could find the ingredients for over here?

Thanks!

Hm, why do you want to risk desaster by attempting a dish that is not from your country?

Well, but you asked for it, so my suggestion is the following: Germans do very nice pancakes. It is a German dish even though most of you probably think it was copied from the French. No - main difference is that the German "Pfannkuchen" is slightly thicker than the French "crepe".

To serve 2 whisk 2 eggs, add milk and 2 tablespoons of flour and a little bit of sparkling water (to make the batter nice and fluffy). Melt a knob of butter in a large frying pan, put in a ladle full of batter and fry on both sides until golden brown.

Traditionally eaten in Germany with sugar and cinnamon. But anything goes, really. Why not some strawberries and cream, seeing that it is the season? Or just sugar and lemon? Or Nutella and honey...

Good luck!

Stick with a fine British meal. You have the best ingredients at hand. Not only that, it's a great conversation topic. If you make her mediocre german food, she won't be impressed. It's all about the show, man.

You could tell her a good story about the food, why it's popular, etc. My personal suggestion: make her fish & chips. But use good quality fish and a light beer batter and a recipe from your mom. Can't lose.

If she doesn't mind to eat meat,
what about some pork-chops,with mashed
potatoes and some cooked beans or carrots!
I think that is easy to cook ,put some seasoning
over the pork chops and roast them on a grill or
frying pan.
Dessert: some ice cream,or chocolate pudding with
vanilla sauce.
If you feel like ,you can add a small salad to the dinner dish too.
What a nice treat of you!

Its asparagus season at the moment, so anything with this in it may impress her.

If not, most Europeans think that traditional British cooking is bad, so educate her with a nice roast.

Good luck

The following recipe may work perfectly for her:
One Banana, Two Eggs and some milk.....
first give her the banana, let her eat it all, then let her touch the eggs;licking the eggs may work too, then finally the milk will come out of you by it self.... Enjoy it

Maybe a bit of sausage would do nicely. I believe it's called Bratwurst. To remind her of home. Or something else.
