Classic - Beethoven's 9th Symphony - especially the 4th movement, known as Ode to Joy. I found redemption in that, and forgave my enemies.

Opera - Puccini's Nessun Dorma (from Turnadot). All great tenors sing this amazing aria. There are so many wonderful love arias in opera, yet this is the standard. Puccini also had Un bel di from Madame Butterfly. Perhaps the best soprano love song.

Rock - Stairway to Heaven and American Pie ... pretty strong contenders.

Jazz - hard to pick a favorite ... Dave Brubeck had some great sutff. There was a horn thing called Rise, but I forgot the name of the band.

Rap - it isn't music.

Country - not my favorite genre, but Lee Greenwood's Proud to be an American expresses the basic instinct of red state USA. Simple, direct, lots of moral clarity.

Pop - Van Morrison's Brown Eyed Girl - what a great song.

Special mention - Jackson Browne - The Pretender ... nuff said.
