I think people make that personal choice. But I see it more open and in ur face in the gay community. Hetrosexuals have no hetro parade. Although I agree there is a lot of sex out there, and the old adage "sex sells" is prevalent, hetrosexuals are not using the courts to push an agenda. Hetrosexuals are not calling others bigots if they disagree with their lifestyle. Hetrosexuals are not trying force acceptance on anyone. Hetrosexuals do not advertise to the world, "look at me, I'm straight". Homosexuals do. They tend to say accept me or else. I don't have a problem with consenting adults doing whatever in the privacy of their own home. I have a problem with being called a bigot because I disagree with a chosen lifestyle, and I don't buy into the argument that a person was born that way. I know a few men that went into prison hetro, and came out homo, by force. So I believe the behavior is learned , not born with.
I dont label people "straight", and I try not to label gay people either. Sometimes they make it hard though, with the "in your face" behavior. It's on them.

A label is only a partial definition -- it's a shorthand for explaining something about yourself or others, not the whole person. It would be awkward to introduce one's self as a "Euro-Asian lesbian with a wheelchair, a purple mohawk, a 30% hearing loss in the right ear and serious trust issues." Each aspect is a part of the whole, some more self-evident than others -- none of them adequately describes the entire person, but each is an imporant part.
Even each component is incomplete. What does "lesbian" mean to each person? For some, it incorrectly means "man-hater" and for others, an orientation to have a greater affectionate feeling for women. Does it mean someone who has never had a romantic or sexual feeling for man? It can, but doesn't always.
What matters most are what descriptions you choose to apply to yourself -- other people will label you as they choose, whether right or wrong. People will believe what they want, regardless of what's true.

Doesn't it depend on the arena ? Socially people would naturally define themselves by gender and sexual orientation. In the workplace it should be by skill level and achievement. This is a big generalization, but if I need, for example, to consult with a medical specialist, I wouldn't ask who he/she sleeps with, I would want to know that person's qualifications as a professional. I think you get the gist.

How you view people should be based on other traits. Sexual orientation is just one aspect of a persons makeup. Heterosexual or homosexual? It's not always obvious and really, none of our business to ask. People think nothing about speculating on whether or not someone is homosexual but I've yet to hear the office gossips whispering ," Do you see that shirt he's wearing today? He's heterosexual if I ever saw one!"

i believe that sexual orientation is a position of the brain regarding attention of 3 dimensions: time, situation and man or woman, in order that signifies that we're conscious of the reverse, each or the equal gender and we love them, we dont desire a purpose for why we love them, its a factor of the brain, which in such a lot instances are not able to be defined in phrases of trends, humans are humans in order that way one homosexual isn't gonna act like one other homosexual, so trait is anything that allows you to by no means (in my brain) outline a gay man or woman

They should define themselves however they feel comfortable. However, as long as bigotry remains there will always be "the blacks" and "the foreigners" and "the gays" and etc. That is outwardly created and then applied.

I'm a woman, mom, daughter, wife, lesbian, neighbor, christain, paraprofessional psychiatric aide...........how many labels do want??
like Dorie said, it depends on the arena and as for what Jack said.........he's talking out his a*s! There is a wonderful documentary on prison and homosexuality.........men (and women) may be raped in prison, but there are plenty that do it to survive, then actually come to realize that they ARE gay......no one thats not gay would come out of prison and still sleep with the same sex unless they had a desire to.......
until you've walked a mile in my shoes.............
I've said this before and I'll say it again.........to those who are straight...........try to MAKE yourself gay........it doesnt work.......same for me.........I tried to be straight........I nearly died because of it.......
