The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. Very simply aged 13 obsessed with astronomy, fascinated by science, developing a liking for off-beat comedy, I found all these things in Hitchhikers. Nevertheless was disappointed with the recent film. Pity. I urge everybody to watch the origional TV series. looks a bit dated now!!! But a classic.

Well, if we can add the Bible under the title "Fiction", then this is the book that most influenced my life. But, being the Word of God, it is not fiction. I'll list 3 other books that made me change the outlook on life and people:
The Possessed by Dostoievsky
The Job of Living by Cesare Pavese
Macbeth by William Shakespeare

My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. It is about a family with a terminally ill child. The parents end up conceiving another child (for blood/placenta etc) to help the first child. I had very definite ideas about this sort of thing (which I didn't agree with). After reading this book and the way the author gets into the minds of all the family members on the issue, I certainly am more tolerant of the reasons why people would conceive a child to help another. Very interesting read.
