It depends on how the server administrators have configured the service I'm afraid :)
You could use the following tip to make life a bit easier:
With the Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox browsers, pressing the Control and Enter keys simultaneously will prefix 'www' and suffix '.com' to whatever has been typed into the address box.

You should not have to type in the http or www.
Simply type in the address and the browser should resolve the name.
There are exceptions when this will not happen. Some sites that begin with "http" and have no "www" in them may not resolve. in this case, precede the site address with the "http://"

Whoever set up the domain's DNS settings should have put it into the registrar both ways. If they didn't, then this won't work.
It's a sure sign they were lazy.

now a days, you dont have to type the ' http://www. ' anymore. you can just type for example in the browsers yahoo.com, google.com
