the doctor or midwife will massage the perineum until it stretches enough, and is thin enough to push the baby's head through

Let your baby come naturally...Anything the Dr does is going to hurt...When my first daughter was born the Dr asked me if I wanted help delivering the baby...I said yes just like anyone would...Well he decided to cut and did not bother to find out if my epidural worked....It didn't. That hurt.

I have 3 children, and was always given pitocin to help with labor and dialation. Its a drug they give you thru your IV to help you dialate and go into labor...if you dont do it naturally. If you go into labor naturally, your body will know what to do. It will dialate on its own and go into labor on its own. But, sometimes there are complications that require the doctor to step in and help.

They can't manually dialte your cervix. They can manually massage your vagina to stretch it to fit the baby's head so that they don't need to cut or have it torn. You go into labour, and your cervix dialates...if you don't dialate, they try oxytocin to help your body along.

what they mean by that is they usually break your water (if it hasn't broken already) to cause the baby to drop down more into the birth canal and then you will dilate faster. if you don't dilate then, they can give you medications sometimes to make you dilate. they gave me a pain reliever and it caused me to dilate with my first child.
