Put white medical tape around all your fingers...change daily. It'll stop you from chewing them, and make you look silly in public. It's how I broke myself. I was 24 and still chewing them down. After I had my son I realized it was a problem cause they'd be sore and sting from the wipes (I'd bite them down till they bled). So I wrapped medical tape around them. After a week I took them off, and still bit them, so I put it back on. It wasn't till I went back to work and got picked on for the tape that I realized it had to stop. So I used nail strengtheners, and the tape. After about a month they were strong and I had stopped biting them. The tape makes it impossible to bite your nails, even if you try. It's been a year and I still haven't bitten a nail.

An action can only be a habit when there is satisfaction or your hands are not that busy that's why you put it inside your mouth too often. Are you satisfied biting your nails? Reality check, do you get anything good with that? Are your hands clean when you bite them? Are you hungry? Do you do a lot of thing at home or at school? Do you have play sport? What is your interests or talents? Get busy on them rather than biting your nails. Somehow it's a psychological. When do you bite them? I mean, what do you feel while biting it? Do you feel afraid or nervous? How about shifting your personality, like think that there's a handsome guy looking at you and you go biting your nails. You should'nt girl. Why don't you think of something else, not really geting rid of it because you can't do that in at instant. But being preoccupied most of the time and enjoying something with your time. Like I said what is your talent maybe, be more active in sports, arts, at school or even at home it will help you and somebody else while pushing those habit away,ok.! Give me a note when it works.

Well, let's just say that this habit is hard to break. But, it's possible. Keep in mind that your hands are visible to everyone you come in contact with. You don't need the most beautiful hands or nails in the world, BUT, it's very unattractive to see nubs(sometimes bloody from chewing). Not to mention the pain that goes along with the constant chewing. I suggest, try keeping gum, carrots, candy, SOMETHING, to keep the mouth occupied. To me, the hand tells a lot about the person. It's one of the first things I look at on a person. So, remember next time you shake or hold someones hand, they might be looking too. You might also ask a friend, coworker, family member, to alert you when the nails go into the mouth. My brother receives a slap on the back of the hand and a loving reminder to "Get that out of your mouth!"

hey sister... lolol, i was in the same boat as you i have biten my nails for 20 yrs and i would bite them til the quick and they would bleed. Until a few months ago. I was getting married and didn't want horrible nails seen when i show off my rings, so i got acrylic nails on. But i had to grow them long enough for them to be put on. AS SOON AS they were "just" long enough, I got them on and had them on for 5 months, now my natural nails are the long length that the acrylic's were and they are my nails. I am now a reformed serial nail biter. good luck

how are you with nail polish? i'm a super nail biter, but if they have polish on them, i'm reluctant to disrupt a state where they look good.
now, for me, nail biting is totally a perfectionist thing-- like "there's too much white on that one or there's a snag there so let's even it all out". so to cure that type of nail biting, i'd go for something like the above--make them "perfect" and you won't obsess about them. alternatives to that is to carry a nail file around with you, maybe on your keychain, and reach for that every time you have the urge. it also helps, if you bite when nervous, if you have something to focus on other than your hands. how bout sunflower seeds in their shells? also try keeping hand lotion around so your hands stay nice and you've also got another bad-taste stimulus.

i know when you are nervous or anxious, you will bite your nails.
find something else like sweets or chewing gum to chew as a substitute.
go for a expensive manicure, maybe thinking of the money you spent on your nails, you will stop the biting.

i think this can be best answered by someone who has fased the problem. , some new idea aside from what u have already tried is wear cotton gloves it will irritate you enough for you to resolve firmly not to bite those nails again.
