Anyone (American or not) who believes that life just popped out of nowhere is just shutting their eyes to the obvious. Look at all the animals that exist today. Did they just suddenly appear and were dropped into thier perfect enviroment? Look at the animals of the past like the dinosaurs. Were they just born as giants or did they start out as little reptiles that eventually grew and grew to their eventual massive sizes. Where did all those cave paintings come from? Or all of those bones and skulls of different types of hominids. I am an American and although I have a religious upbringing, I also have an open mind to reality. I also don't believe that the percentage is growing. In fact I think the number is actually shrinking. It is now taught in more of our schools and colleges, it is more and more shown in different types of media, there are now more museums that are exhibiting the fossil records and giving scientific explanations. Sure the bible belt of america is still mostly closed to this type of thinking but that is not where the heart of our science is coming from anyway.

I am not concerned because I am not American.
But Americans certainly should be concerned. This sort of closed minded social censorship of technological advancements has happened multiple times throughout history, and without exception the societies that attempted to quash the knowledge rather than utilising it were rapidly eliminated. A nation simply can not remain secure and competitive when its technological growth is hampered by placing taboos on knowledge.
But all world powers have come and gone, often for this precise reason. The US has a limited lifespan and with this sort of internal dogmatic ignorance growing it seems likely that the US will decline rapidly within the next generation.
I just find it interesting that the early cold war US administrations recognised when the US was falling behind in science education and commit ed massive funds to remedy the problem for reasons of national security. Yet US schoolchildren are far more scientifically ignorant today than they were in 1955 and successive administrations have done nothing because they are knob bled by a group of religious fund mentalists.
In such ways have all great powers fallen.

The Bible was off on every single point as far as Genesis goes.
Day 1: The sun came into being hundreds of millions of years before the Earth, not after the Earth. the Earth was never dark.
Days 2: Dry land and solid rock appeared well before the Earth was cool enough for liquid water to exist.
Day 3: Animal life existed for billions of years before the first flowering plants appeared.
Day 4. The stars, sun and Moon all existed well before the first flowering plants appeared.
Day 5. Whales and seagulls most emphatically did not appear before jellyfish and sand worms.
Day 6. Cockroaches, earthworms and lizards appeared well before whales or seagulls.
You'd have to be on acid to believe that the Genesis account matched the facts on any points at all.

I believe in a higher power, but I am extreme scientifically analytical also. I find that the bible, having some truth to all that is said in the stories, there are a lot of things that are not being read properly also. AS far as evolution, science has proven that it is not a fictional thing. many of the animals that are on earth today came from what were the dinosaurs. Look at croc's and alligators, they are living dino's. Look at us, we evolved from an apelike animal. It is not far fetched. We evolved!
The bible says that mankind was created by god, from the dust. This is, as I see it, how many people of that day, could put the begining of mankind into context so it could be understood. There was not many who were analytical thinkers back then, this was still in evolution with mankind. The story of Adam & Eve was a fable to allow simple minds to understand more easily, I believe. All life on this planet is in a constant state of flux, changing daily. New life is being found daily, many of which are relative to life that is known to us already, but evolved to adapt to their environment. Scientists and people that wish to not see this, are close minded for sure, as they are living in a belief that is closely related to a fairy tale, where nothing changes and everything is good. I believe that without evolution, all life would die in a relatively short time period.

Theory of Evolution is not proved beyond doubt.Even many scientists donot believe it.There are many people all over the world who doesnot believe in the theory.Darwins theory has two parts 1.Theory of Natural selection.2.Survival of the Fittest. If the theory is correct only the fittest survive and all other specuies perish.ie.Man and Monkey cannot survive together.Only Man the fittest should survive.Similarly there are different birds, wild animals dissimilar.Thease are not fully explained by theory of evolution.
In fact man doesnot fit into category of any animal on earth. He has intelligence. Can Man might have come to earth or sent some body else from other solar systems in Universe?

How can you live in America and believe in evolution, evolution normally means the advancement of a species or group.
They do not even have enough electricity so they are still in the Dark Ages
Most Bimbos are on the beach or the Bronze Age
Their secure areas are under ground as the cave men
The attitude they can save the world left with the Ark.

Evolution has alot of flaws, but because it is the anti-religion people hang on to it dearly.
As a Christian I am accused of being closed minded yet people who hang on to evolution will not even consider the possability it is wrong.
Science will be best served by keeping an open mind to all options including the one that says evolution is wrong.

Interesting topic. Try reading a little on the topic, I suggest a book by Dr Isaac Asimov (the Sci-fi author but this is a factual book) called "In the Beginning, God Faces Science in the Book of Genesis". It would seem that bible wasn't that far off as far as evolution goes........

Just a guess but I don't think Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo or Newton believed in evolution either. And they seem to have done quite a bit in regards to advancing science.

These people mostly can't find their own country on the map. Many think dinosaurs co-existed with early humans. The extent of ignorance is a little bigger than just evolution.

A growing body of expert mathematicians believe in intelligent design.
The science of probabilities does not allow evolution.
