With both my boys, they put a catheter in me prior to delivery to empty my bladder. As far as bowels, yeah you push like you're having a bm, but your body actually shuts that function down. I didn't have an enema like everyone else is saying with either of my kids, and they were both in two different states (on in Pennsylvania, and my second in Michigan). Your body shuts that function down, that's why they'll constantly be asking you if you've had a bm yet after delivery. With my second son, they wouldn't release me till I had a bm, just to make sure everything was back to normal.

They give you an enema if there is time and that helps. Plus if you have a really slow labor (mine was), your told not to eat or drink anything the entire time your in labor so by the time the baby arrives you don't have any urine or bm left in your system.

btw. urine is considered sterile so its not going to hurt the baby if you happen to get some on the baby at the time of delivery.

After giving birth twice i recall thinking like you...what to do about it....usually you have time to get cleaned out before delivery...but seriously drink plenty water during the whole 9 months. so at the time of labor and delivery you won't be constipated. This way you will be regular and have no worrys. Remember the doctors and nurses have seen everything so don't let this worry you. Think about your wonderful gift you'll hold after your hard work....Best Wishes!

It is normal but the doctors try to decrease it as much as possible. That is why when you go into the hospital you are not allowed to eat or drink anything (except ice chips). My best friend was in labor for almost seven hours and the hole time all she got was ice chips. Its to decrease the possibility of an accident like that.

Nope, let nature take it's course. The doctors and nurses have seen it all before. There is no modesty in labor and delivery.

.why are you concerned? Whatever happens is natural and they are used to it. and you will be too busy to pay any attention - In 3 births I never had this problem so maybe these parts just shut off ?? Ask your doc.

I wouldn't worry about it...if it does happen, they quickly move it out of the way, and keep on going...
