okay, a band that represents all types of rock for me would be the dead, and now phil lesh and friends. they have covered songs at shows i have seen from a broad spectrum of types of music, blues, country, old rock and roll, classic rock, pop, psychedelic, and i always thought they defied any label, or being categorized as a rock band.

Nobody founded rock and roll; it's the evolution of music.

For representation of rock though, that's hard to say. For me I think it would Led Zeppelin, even though I don't listen to them much. And honestly, I have no idea why I would pick them. In my mind they bridge a gap, but that would be filled by most people with either Elvis or the Beatles.

Bill Hailey and the comets started it. Elvis Presley did a lot of different styles as well as the Beatles. The Beach Boys also had a wide range of sounds.

the blues founded rock n' roll... we wouldn't have it without the blues coming first... no elvis, no beatles, no zeppelin, no queen, without Mamie Smith, Ma Rainey, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, etc.
