If they make it into the second round, Sven will probably play him. He is a great player but I don't think he should be played if he isn't 100% fit. He is only one player in the pool of a lot of other great players. It takes more than one player to win the world cup and it's going to take a lot more than having Wayne Rooney fit for England to stand a real chance of progressing through to the later stages.

I dont think the world cup will be on long enough for Wayne to get fit in time to play

IF and when Wayne gets the thumbs-up from the medical team, even wild horses cannot stop him from playing. Fans of English football the world over yearn to see him in action. It will be risky of course even if given the greenlight but the final decision is up to him and Eriksson. No footballing youngster can say "no" to playing in the greatest event in football.

According to the team medics from both England and Manchester United, he is now OK to play in the World Cup.

I do not think that it will be asking for trouble at all.

Wayne Rooney's place in the England squad has just been confirmed

I dont think so, because he is still on the watch list of the medical team. even if he is cleared to play he wont be giving his 100%, he would be very cautious because his injury would be like a new skin on a wound. if his bone structure is in right place, it would require rigidness, strength for the bone to come to its original strenght as it was before injury. so i think he wont risk playing in WC 2006 or risking getting injured again because soccer is a very physical game and any injury requires mental and physical healing.

Yes but only if he passes his fitness test later tomorrow. England should do well but this guy must play in the later stages to stand a chance.
