"Old-fashion" names, ( like Mary, John , Tom, Kevin, Scott, Larry, Jane, Lisa, Ann)??
OR "Up-dated" names, ( like Brianna, Skylar, Tanya, Moesha, Cody, ) ??
OR is there even a difference between the two?

Well, my daughter's name is an old fashioned name (Carol), named after my sister, who in turn was named after my mom's aunt.
my son's name is more up-to date, Bryley (pronounced Brilee, with a long "I")
So I guess it all depends on the parents.
After all, it is the second gift a parent could give to their children (the first being the gift of life)

I do not like the names that are associated with other items, whether they are "old-fashioned" or "up-dated". For instance, who would want to be named John, as if they are being named after an outhouse? Everytime I hear someone being called "John" I instantly think of the toilet. It disgusts me.

I love the up-dated names. I have one of the old-fashioned names for my first name and one for my middle name too! But there is some more older-fashioned names than the ones you mentioned like: Harriet, Agnes, Beulah, and names like Abraham,Moses from bibical times. Maybe we should love our names more!

I think old fashion names are boring. The updated names are more interesting and they aren't common. Go for the updated names-more fun!

I think the idea of stringing syllables together to create a glutteral sound and using it as a name is stupid. A name should have a history and meaning behind it, it should be chosen wisely for factors beyond just how it sounds.

Well I don't have any kids to name so it really doesn't matter to me. If I had kids to name I'd go with more updated names though because the older names are much too common.

I don't mind either... The ones that I cannot stand are names like 'Apple'. The kid has got to go through life with that name, for heavens' sake!
