You can get plan books from places like Lowe's, Home Depot, Barne's & Noble, etc.
In rural southeast Missouri, you see a lot of older storm shelters...little concrete bunkers, literally, built out away from the home. Many storm shelters now, tho, are built into the basement, or crawlspace of a new home. This can even be done for mobile homes.
You can build very simple storm shelters, or very elaborate. The idea, of course, is to make them extremely sturdy, and hard to destroy. Most are made of concrete, with either a concrete, or heavy gauge steel plate, for the 'roof'. You also want a very strong door (usually steel). Most 'commercial' storm shelters that are 'pre-fab', are usually made of heavy gauge steel, entirely.
There are several places you can go to for free plans too...Ive provided a few links for you to look at, some provide free plans, some offer shelters, or plans at a cost.

Sometimes i write. Sometimes I like to express myself through designing my space around me. You know finding that perfect item to put in my space,or that perfect pillow.
