Yes, I have had several. Homebirth is actually safer than hospital birth for healthy mothers and babies, according to the only research study ever done on a matched population (Dr. Lewis Mehl, 1977). The doctor who did the study originally set out to prove that homebirth *isn't* safe scientifically, so study bias is *not* a possible cause of the outcome.

One of the main reasons that homebirth is safer is that a woman in labor at home has *constant* care; in a hospital, she may not see even a nurse between check-in and when she starts pushing. A midwife who is caring for a laboring woman will detect a small problem before it becomes a large problem. A nurse filling out forms down the hall won't.

In addition, medical care during labor is often overused, resulting in risks a woman isn't exposed to at home; doctors are often unconcerned about this type of intervention, as they can always "fix" anything they mess up! Mothers are usually more interested in not getting in trouble in the first place, but they are sometimes convinced that the doctor "saved the baby" without realizing that this was only because he endangered the baby first.

Yes. I've had one in a birth center, one in a hospital--both with midwives. I'm thinking the next one I might do it at home with a midwife. A midwife is trained to handle "normal" complications and if there are "big" complications, I'm a short ways from the hospital.

I used to want one, but I think I'll stick with the hospital. It just seems safer for me and baby. I've had 2 in the last 3 years; even though there were no complications, I'm glad I made it to the hospital. I love delivering with a midwife and no drugs! I'm also very insistent about keeping my baby with me and not letting the nurse take baby to the nursery for baths and whatever.

I think it is up to each woman to decide where to birth their child. I personally would not have a home birth. I tried to go natural when I had my son. After harsh back-labor, I gave in and took an epidural.
Each woman is different, if you research, and find a good mid-wife or homebirthing nurse you might find that you would feel more comfortable at home.
If you have a healthy normal pregnancy, I see nothing wrong with a home birth. Years ago all babies were born at home.
If you do decide to go with a home birth, make sure you have a plan in case something does go wrong.

I have had four children delivered at a hospital. I really wanted a home birth for my last child but it scared my husband. All of my deliveries were very smooth and could've happened at home. I still regret not delivering my youngest at home but because my hubby was so terrified of the idea, he wouldn't have been very supportive. I think if all is well in the pregnancy and with the baby, and this is something you would like to experience, you should go for it!

Nope. I did it at a hospital, and it was better that I did. My water broke, and 9 hours later, I wasn't dialated. I had to have pitocin, which in turn makes it excrutiating and unbearable, and thus I needed an epidural. I feel safer doing it at a hospital, in case an emergency pops up. You may have no complications during pregnancy, but something could arise during labor.

I'm planning to give birth at home. If my husband would be okay with it, I think that I would like an unattended birth best, but I am willing to compromise with a hands-off midwife. Everything that interferes with the birth process creates problems. You should go to www.mothering.com, I think you would like it there.

My mother had my brother at home, because the ambulance was very slow. Thank God, there was no complecations. But when the ambulance arrived, they took my Mom and my baby-brother to the hospital.
Also - it is a very big stress for those at your home. Trust me - it is not a pleasing view and I doubt that someone can actually help you (or the woman). Plus, it is dangerous - you never know what can happen.

no because there can be complications you are don't know about till the last minute they come out...the cord could be around the babies neck and it is safe when they are inside but once you start pushing it gets tighter...you might tear your uteris and start bleeding out that can kill you...we have all the things wee need at a hopistal so why not use it...
