If Joseph Stalin had sold slave labor to American capitalists the way China is doing today, we would all be in the Gulag right now.

NO! If you had ever read the theory of communism you would know why. The only part of China that has prospered is Hong Kong. It has because it was under English rule. When China took it back over, they were smart enough to leave it a capitalistic economy. The country was about broke and they needed the money.

Actually, with private control of our central banking system, we ARE a communist country with capitalist skin. The last trace of "Adam Smith" libertarian capitalism was hauled behind the barn and shot under Woodrow Wilson (the first attack was Marbury vs. Madison, where the people lost control of the money creation ability). Now we have a system called Keynesian capitalism, where the illusion of prosperity is bought completely on financing and credit, ensuring just a handful of financial institutions profit every time someone sneezes. The money essentially flows in one direction only, which is a tenet of communism.
Just imagine if suddenly EVERYTHING you, your friends, and your neighbors have bought on credit were to disappear, including home mortgages, cars on "payment", and electronics purchased by credit card. Essentially, through credit, you are allowed to write yourself a blank check any time you want. You feel rich and prosperous, but alas, it isn't real. It is your earnings over the next 2, 5, 10, or even 30 years you have spent. On that 30 year mortgage you will pay 3x for that same home. Who pockets the cash coming and going? Banking institutions.

China. It is not luck either. You can have a capitalist econonmy with a communist political system.
Watch out for them my man, they may eat our lunch in the next 50 years. Why do you think they leave Taiwan and Hong Kong pretty much alone?
Yeah, they saber rattle, probably partially because of us, but the will not kill the geese that lay the golden eggs.

China is enjoying capitalism and so are we. I would much rather live here where I can have my freedom though. The freedom is worth more than the money.
