It’s a little known fact that in the mid-sixties, Rory Emerald had aspirations of being a film star in Hollywood. He had the dashing good looks that made girls swoon, and often auditioned for major films that were being produced in that era. When the auditions were cast for the highly regarded and influential movie “Beach Blanket Bingo” Rory immediately tried out for the role of “Frankie”. The fact that Frankie Avalon had played that role in several other “Bikini” movies, as they were nicknamed by inside Hollywood people, did not deter Rory. He was smitten with the actor that played Eric Von Zipper, the Nazi hippie that rode the motorbike with the sidecar, who was played by little known Harvey Lembeck.

So, on that fateful February morning in 1965, Rory auditioned for the part of Frankie. The producers were both amused and inspired by Rory’s ill-fated attempt. The buxom young actress, Annette Funicello was also impressed, and requested a private audience with the aspiring movie star. Rory turned down the actresses obvious overtures, hoping to catch a glimpse of his potential paramour, Harvey Lembeck. Lembeck was best known for wearing a dress in the classic movie, Stalag 17. Rory was hoping to recreate that scene in Mr. Lembeck’s private quarters, and consummate the relationship by deflowering Mr. Lembeck. His thoughts of Harvey Lembeck in a dress aroused him intensely, almost paralyzing him with excitement.

He heard noises that startled him, coming from another room. He went to investigate and was appalled to see Frankie Avalon and Harvey Lembeck involved in a lingering kiss, arms around each other. He was devastated, to say the least. .Had Rory known that Harvey Lembeck was romantically involved with Frankie Avalon, perhaps he would have taken up Ms. Funicello’s plaintive pleas for pleasure. However, Rory Emerald was consumed with a romantic tryst with the Nazi wannabe. He tried to keep his composure, but a loud wail emitted from his strangled throat, a cry of such despair that the young couple broke their embrace to scrutinize the commotion. It has been speculated that Mr. Emerald did indeed get his Nazi. Frankie Avalon was reportedly so touched by the obvious wanton lust, that the three of them had some wild sexual adventures.

Annette Funicello was a mouskateer many years ago and then went on to be an actress in beach movies in the 60's. Frankie Avalon was also a heart throb of the 60's. Never heard of Rory Emerald. Sorry Rory.
