Myself, and yes it does pay off.

People come and go throughout your life. Friends, family, lovers, etc... they all pass in time. The only person that sees your life through to the end is you, so why not try to impress yourself along the way?

My parents. I've spent my whole life trying to live up to what I perceive to be their expectations. Has it paid off? Sometimes. Mostly I end up just getting myself all frustrated for no good reason. It's ridiculous. Intellectually I know my parents are proud of me no matter what, but emotionally I always want to please them.

I hope I outgrow this someday; I am in my late thirties. *sigh*

My ex-husband. And then I realized that people only get competitive and jealous if they realize that you are better than them.
Sheesh! Such a waste of time. I could have had a really great guy if I would have been myself.
Whatever!
