Sci-Fi/Fantasy. My favorite author was Andre Norton. I also like Mercedes Lackey and the dragonlance saga. A good author can take you to another planet with their details and engrossing stories. I tried to read a romance novel but I couldn't get into it. To much staring into each others eyes etc, stuff. Some of them are almost like soft porn but in a prettier package..

A fantasy novel (like the Narnia series) but not a sci-fi one. If it has robots or spaceships in it, I'd just take the romance novel.

I have a vivid imagination as well and I love reading about mythical creatures and legend lands. Books like those me a natural high especially when I'm having an ultra-bad day because I can escape to those fictional paradises.

1984 by George Orwell is a favourite of mine.

Definitely sci-fi. The stories are more cerebral and imaginative than romance. Some suggestions if you're interested (and I hope you list some of your favorites on your comments):

Stranger in a Strange Land (Heinlein)
Neuromancer (Gibson)
The Foundation series (Asimov)
Childhood's End (Clarke)
Earth Abides (Stewart)
Dune (Herbert)
The Left Hand of Darknes (Le Guin)
Flowers for Algernon (Keyes)
1984 (Orwell)

If you like puns try the Xanth series by Piers Anthony.

And of course, Lord of the Rings is in a class of its own. Exquisite.

Personally i prefer , mystery/detective novels, but if i had to choose between the 2 that u have mentioned i would go for romance, why?? at least there is some scope for understanding whats going one.

all science fiction movies or books always end in a Headache and they give u more questions then what u started with..

I love to read Romance novels. I guess because I can relate to some of the people in the stories. When something happens to them sad, I can't help crying. I really get into the story.

I love great sci-fi. Mr. Heinlein seemed to be the better of other sci-fi authors in terms of even including a realistic semblence of females in his books. In my own opinion he's the best in describing anything remotely sex/sensual in sci-fi. Compare current author Steven Baxter and the older Larry Niven their writing of relationships ranges from clutzy to just plain sexist. Mr. Asimov doesn't even bother. I love descriptions of space travel that sounds even remotely realistic. Sadly, it's been written about and not accomplished. My two cents..as to your question. Sci-fi.
