We'd both been married before and definitely didn't want to have a big wedding. We decided to go to New Orleans and leave everyone else behind. My grown kids were kinda upset, but this wedding was for us.
We got married in a chapel a block from Bourbon Street and spent our honeymoon there for the next 3 days. It was wonderful. If I had it to do all over again, I'd do the same thing. Not much expense and no headaches. Wedding and honeymoon all in the same place.
This was 3 and half years ago, before the hurricane by the way. I wanted a memorable wedding and it was.

I wanted to for a couple of reasons. My mother in law was making our planning process unbearable. We had a medium-sized wedding.
My parents eloped and they have a really cool relationship. That was like 4 years before I was born. They eloped (with just their parents there) because my dad was in the Navy (VietNam War Era) and he was going back out to sea. They were from different parts of the United States and pretty much had to get married when he was in The States and my mom felt that if she couldn't have everyone she wanted there, she didn't want anyone.

I did.
I just didn't want the whole big scene of church wedding.
Besides it was a great vacation together!
