I am a student 18 years of age and i live in Ontario > Canada. Recently my father recieved a call from my math teacher about the results of my recent test and my current mark. Although I am sure she has only the best of intentions, i am wondering, due to the fact that i am 18 years old, if she has legal grounds to do so.

Can't give you the Canadian answer, but I can tell you how we do things south of your border...and I'm sure they are about the same.

As long as you are a student in public school, 18 or not, you are not considered as an "adult" until you graduate.

UNLESS, you are your own legal guardian, which is true for some 18 year olds...but don't move out of the house over this! Your teacher cares very much about your performance. Go see her for extra help. Show her you care about your education just as much as she does!

If you live at home I think that your parent(s) is/are considered your legal guardian. However this to me sound like a load of B.S. when I write it. I would ask legal aid. You can do this at universities like the UNiversity of Toronto or McGill. Just look up legal aid online "legal aid canada" or call your minister of parliaments office and ask. You can email the ministry of education too.

I teach in Canada. Yes, if you are still under the legal guardianship of your parents, teachers have the right (and the responsibility) to contact your parents about grades.

There are no laws regarding test grades, grades, or anything within school. Not like a doctor where there is privileged information. Anyone can get your grades if they say they need them. Who pays your tuition? You or Dad? All you can do is ask that if you pay your own way at school, that they keep your information private and confidential. No laws though.

Yes, she had the right to do so because the teacher wants the student to do good in school.
